Sometimes simple is best.

There are many styles when discussing Interior Design. A recent trend has been simple, clean modern farmhouse design. Clean, crisp drapery side panels, minimal lines on furniture frames and less layering when applying accessories. On this day in 1911, Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, the Mona Lisa, was stolen from the Louvre in Paris and remained missing for almost two years. I would have helped the authorities to find this treasure, but was only seven years old and not aloud outside past my bedtime. This still ranks as one of the biggest art heists of the 20th century. One of the reasons that the Mona Lisa remains such a classic work of art is the " sometimes simple is best " approach taken by Leo. In comparison to many contemporary images of the elite, this portrait is stripped of the usual trappings of high status or any hints to the sitter's dynastic heritage. All attention is thus drawn to her face, and that enigmatic expression. (Mona Lisa's real name was Lisa d...

Beauty is in the aye of the beholder. ( Just say yes. )

On this day in 1993, The sitcom Frasier—a spin-off of Cheers, starring Kelsey Grammer, debuted on NBC television and became one of the most popular American television shows of the late 20th century. For those of us who watch (ed) this show, you cannot un-see the iconic striped chair belonging to the Dad, that sat among Fraziers classicly styled Seattle flat. For those who never saw the show, I have included a picture. Margaret Wolfe Hungerford is credited with introducing the classic quote " Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." It's true. Although some design decisions are agreed on en masse i.e. Sherwin Williams popular paint color Agreeable Grey, some choices are left to be enjoyed by one's own eyes. Bassett Furniture, established well over 100 years ago has grown in both popularity and design asthetic as more and more transitional frames and fabrics are added to our library on a more than just seasonal basis. Stop in, or better yet, make an appointment to discu...

Weclome back readers. On this day in 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified after Tennessee—by just one vote—became the 36th state to approve it, capping the 72-year fight to win women the right to vote in the United States. It seems odd to me, as it really wasn't that long ago, that not everyone had the right to cast their opinion in ballot form. So...make sure to vote. Anyway, when is the last time that you visited Bassett? Even if it has been only a few weeks, we have received a lot of new product to get your end of Summer/Coming up Autumn design curiosity whetted. Come in, view what's new and cast your vote for your favorite home furnishings and enjoy special savings on upholstery, wood product and accessories. Ask for Jim. That's me. JPClarey@Bassettfurniture.com 610-337-1249 I am here Wednesdays through Sundays, unless I am in someone's home making things better.
