I may be the only one who tends to hit the rewind button this time of year, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I am not alone. I very recently learned that my only child/adopted Mom had an older brother three years her senior and probably never knew that he existed. Even more illuminating, he and his mother (who would have been my grandmother) lived less than ten minutes away from me in my twenties and early thirties. I wish that I could find photos because there's a good chance that I cut one or both of them off in the grocery store line or in busy traffic. Bassett Furniture has been around since 1902 and has kept with the times throughout its' history. Quality, variety and a strong reputation are the main part of our success. Whatever Holiday you celebrate, please keep in mind that we are all in this together. I enjoy working her because of the aforementioned stats and also because virtually all walks of life stop into the King of Prussia location. We invite you to do the s...

44 Luxury Furniture Brands That Are Interior Designer-Approved You'll find everything you need here. By Jessica Cherner Published: May 8, 2025 Bassett When Bassett was founded in 1902, most furniture designers were, for the most part, cabinet makers, and Bassett was no different. The early 20th century experienced a massive boom in growth, so there was an urgent need to supply furniture to all of the new houses, tenements, and more across the country. Now, you won’t find any cabinets with the Bassett stamp, but rather, an array of hand-crafted furniture that reflects the brand’s humble beginnings. Though highly traditional and without a lot of ornamentation, Bassett’s pieces are nostalgic in all the right ways, boasting a very subtle hint at Americana vibes. The Five Stages of Interior Design include: Concept Development The first stage, where the designer develops a preliminary design concept that meets the client's needs after a brief duscussion of funtion, budget, timeline and steps. Design Development A creative, problem-solving phase where the designer develops a comprehensive design solution and space plans. Schematic Design A collaborative phase where the designer creates a design schematic to help the client envision the room and pictures specific pieces. Design Proposal The designer presents the concept of the future design in mood boards, sketches, elevation plans, samples and in my case, Old School Powerpoint. Halloween's origins can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. The Celts believed that the boundary between the living and the dead was at its thinnest on the night of Samhain , and that the spirits of the dead would return to earth. To symbolize the end of the harvest, they included apples, pumpkins, or other fall crops. Hallowe'en also marked the end of Summer and the beginning of Winter, but here in Chester County, PA it is sunny and 82 degrees. It also marked the end of Harvest, but I have to say- The grocery store was packed! Today/this evening may not be the perfect time to visit Bassett King of Prussia and make your home furnishing selections ( even tho' our current Sale is mostly better than 30$ off ) but there is (usually) always tomorrow. Unless, well... let's not go there. This sale ends Sunday, 11/3/2024. So, Happy Dia de las Brujas

Enough about Interior Design. Let's talk Pine Trees. You may ask (or just pretend that you did so as not to ruin the flow of my Blog Post) Do any pine trees change color in the fall? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The old needles of red pines, for instance, will turn a deep copper color before falling, while white pines and pitch pines take on a lighter, golden color. Changing conifer (cone bearing trees) colors can also be the sign of...

As with most colors in color theory, the color blue has both positive and negative connections. With a sense of calm, relaxation, trust, loyalty and authority, the positive highlights convey a sense of honesty, commitment, serenity and peace. The negative effects of blue convey fragility, depression, predictability and even coldness. In design, the exact shade of blue you select will have a huge impact on how your designs are perceived. Light blues are often relaxed and calming. Bright blues can be energizing and refreshing. Dark blues, like navy, are excellent for corporate sites or designs where strength and reliability are important. Bassett has just introduced many new, durable and attractive fabrics for our upholstery lines as well as a soft, almost suede-like blue leather called Sophia which lends itself to both calming and dominant color palettes. On this day in 2001, the Leaning Tower of Piza was reopened after being closed for almost ten years due to repairs. It was seen as a monumetal task until one excellent brain had the idea to tell people not to stand on only one side at a time and, voila. Fixed. Do you ever walk into a room and start to think about making changes? And the more you think, the more frustrated you become and then you walk out of the room and move onto something else? Sort of like the Leaning Tower, maybe what you need is a fresh pair of eyes (and ears) to sit with you and discuss changes in a relaxed manner. Bassett King of Prussia has a team of highly qualified and experienced Designers who can take the stress out of the most small or large project and make it, well...fun. Indoor, outdoor and combining both is what we do best. Stop in, call or email me to make an initial appointment. Leaning towards peace of mind, a new and improved space and a fresh lease on life. There are many styles when discussing Interior Design. A recent trend has been simple, clean modern farmhouse design. Clean, crisp drapery side panels, minimal lines on furniture frames and less layering when applying accessories. On this day in 1911, Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, the Mona Lisa, was stolen from the Louvre in Paris and remained missing for almost two years. I would have helped the authorities to find this treasure, but was only seven years old and not aloud outside past my bedtime. This still ranks as one of the biggest art heists of the 20th century. One of the reasons that the Mona Lisa remains such a classic work of art is the " sometimes simple is best " approach taken by Leo. In comparison to many contemporary images of the elite, this portrait is stripped of the usual trappings of high status or any hints to the sitter's dynastic heritage. All attention is thus drawn to her face, and that enigmatic expression. (Mona Lisa's real name was Lisa d...

"Black friday" is now commonly known as the day after Thanksgiving, as far as shopping is concerned. This moniker began in the 1950's specifically referring to how the Police complained about the influx of people coming to the city to shop. It has also been said that the success of customer purchasing on Black Friday meant that retailers could happily record sales numbers in black ink and move away from the red ink, indicating losses in revenue. Ok, so now let's move onto Bassett, Black Friday and crowds. Our "Black Friday" sale is in full motion NOW. This means that you can stop in on any day of the week, meet with a Designer, (hopefully me) and make decisions involving your indoor and outdoor home furnishing needs in a relaxed, stress free enviornment. Walk-ins are welcome, but I personally prefer having you make an appointment. That way we aren't interrupted and our train of thought doesn't derail. Our sale is 30% off across the board, with the e...

On this day in 1953, Ray Bradbury's dystopian novel "Farenheit 451" was published. If you take a thin piece of paper and attempt to burn it, it will start to smoulder and then flame at 451 degrees. Ironically, this novel is on a hit list of books that have currently been banned in some places. Another aspect of irony is that, when books are banned, it usually "ignites" peoples interest in reading something that they perhaps never would have read prior to being told that they couldn't. (irony...a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.) Now, let's play irony in Interior design. Many think that if you have a big space you need to cover every square inch. Or in the reverse, a smaller space needs few items. But it's really fine to design a large space in a sparse manner, and crowd a smaller footprint to create a coze sense of excitement. Isn't that ironic? How about keeping t...

Thanksgiving has been an official holiday since the days of George Washington, who, in 1789, issued the first proclamation of Thanksgiving to honor the new national constitution. During the early 19th century, numerous states began to observe Thanksgiving on their own, setting different dates state by state. In the 1860s, Mrs. Sarah J. Hale, editor of Godey’s Lady’s Book, mounted a vigorous campaign for a national Thanksgiving Day to be on the same date each year, coast to coast. ( Leave it to a woman for sense and sensibilities.) This gained presidential attention, and subsequently, on October 3 of 1863, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November as a National Day of Thanksgiving. We celebrated the official holiday together as a nation on November 26, 1863. For the next seventy years, each U.S. President issued his own proclamation confirming the date. Then, in 1939, finally Franklin D. Roosevelt re-set the day as November’s third Thursday. And then in 1941, a resolution...
